The present structure of the temple was completed under the Sabarna Roy Chowdhury family’s patronage in 1809. The picture of Kali in this temple is one of a kind. Kalighat temple attracts a huge crowd every day.

Timings :- 5AM-2PM, 5PM-10:30PM

How to Reach :-

By train :- The nearest stations are Jatin Das Park and Kalighat. Please take the Northern exit in Jatin Das Park and the Southern exit in Kalighat.

By road :-Kalighat is located in south Kolakata. Buses are available from all parts of Kolakata.

The temple is constructed by the Birla family in the year 1970 and took almost 26 years in the completion of this marvelous structure. It is Opened to the public in 1996. It looks similar to the Lingaraj Temple situated in Bhubaneswar. The beauty of the temple attracts more people towards it.

By Train :-Rabindra Sadan, Maidan Metro and Kalighat metro stations are nearest metro stations.

By Road :-One can either hire a taxi or board a local bus to reach the temple.

3.Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Dakshineswar Kali Temple is located on the banks of river Hoogly. This temple is also dedicated to goddess kali. The temple was built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni. In compare to other Hindu temple, this one consist of nine towers and has been underlying the exemplary Bengali engineering style of Navratna. The temple is also known for its association with Ramakrishna and Ma Sarada Devi.

Location :- May Dibas Pally, Dakshineswar

Timing :-5 AM to 8 PM

How to Reach :-

By Train :-To arrive at Dakshineshwar from Kolkata, board the train that goes to Dankuni from Sealdah. Get down at Dakshineshwar station and the temple is at a walking distance from the station.

By Road :-You may as well hire yellow taxis or rental cars from either Kolkata or Howrah to reach the temple.

4.Iskcon Temple

Iskcon Temple was build in the memory of lord krishna. along with lord Krishna, goddess radha is also worshiped in this temple. It was established in the year 1970 for the devotees of Lord Krishna and Radha. , the temple is always filled with the chants and bhajans of scores of devotees, who get deeply absorbed by the beauty of the temple.

Timings :- 4:30 AM 1 PM, 4 PM to 8:30 PM

How to Reach :-

By Train :-Take a metro to Rabindra Sadan Metro Station. Come out from EXIT gate and ask the way to Minto Park. After reaching minto park ask where is Birla High School. ISKCON temple is located in road opposite to Birla High School.

5. Belur Math

Belur Math is one more Temple in the list should visit place when in Kolkata. it is the base camp of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. It was estblished by Swami Bibekananda in 1938. it is situated on the west bank of Hooghly River.iIt is dedicated to Ramakrishna Paramhanse. If the outside of the temple doesn’t intrigue you, the Christian, Hindu and Muslim themes worked inside will clearly arouse your curiosity. In contrast to different temple, this one is a shocking illustration of brotherhood of all religions.

Location :- Belur, Howrah, on the banks of the Hooghly River, Kolkata

Timing :- 6 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM

How to Reach :-

By Train :-You can take Metro Rail to the DumDum Metro station. You will have to switch train from Dumdum station and take local train to Dakshineswar. After you reach Dakshineswar, you can take a shared motor boat.

By Road :-

Here is the shortest and fastest route to follow-

  1. Take Mahatma Gandhi Rd and Rabindra Setu to Dobson Rd/Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Rd in Gulmohar Railway Quarters, Howrah. Continue driving for 22 minutes (4.5 kilometers).
  2. Take Grand Trunk Rd to Belur Math Rd in Belur. Drive 5.4 kilometers. The route has lesser traffic, so you can cover the distance in about 23 minutes.
  3. Follow Belur Math Rd to Belur Math Campus. You can reach the Belur Math in next 2 to 5 minutes.
