Unveiling The Flavors Of Tibetan Cuisine In Majnu Ka Tila (Delhi):

As we all know Delhi is the food capital of India. Here food plays a huge part of their culture. It has street foods from all over India. There are places where you can find people serving some amazing local cuisines and Majnu Ka Tila (MKT) is one of them. This place is also known as the “Little Tibet” of Delhi. This little lane is situated right next to Delhi University, in Arun Nagar. So here am curating a list of local Tibetan dishes which you can try if you are planning to visit Delhi.

How to reach MKT?

You can take the Delhi Metro and alight at Vidhan Sabha Metro Station on the Yellow Line. From there you can easily take an auto rickshaw or cycle rickshaw ride to Majnu Ka Tila.

In Majnu Ka Tila there are shops where you can find Korean food products and other stuffs. Some small shops sell traditional Tibetan artifacts, clothing and handicrafts. Overall, its a great spot to experience a slice of Tibetan Culture in the heart of Delhi.

1. Momo

Majnu Ka Tila is one of the best places to have variety of momos. From steamed to fried you name it they have it. It is nothing but a type of dumpling made from white flour filled with juicy stuffing, served with spicy dips. jhol momo, kothey momo are two must try options.

2. Laphing

Laphing is a popular street food in Tibet and Nepal which is known for its spicy flavour and smooth texture. The DRY LAPHING is made of hand pulled noodles mixed with different type of spices and meat. They also add crushed wai wai noodles for the crunch. On the other hand, the LAPHING NOODLE SOUP is made with noodles dipped in warm spicy broth. Both the dishes are delicious and a must try.

3. Tingmo

Tingmo is a traditional Tibetan cuisine. Basically a steamed bread with a soft and fluffy texture. It is often served with vegetable and meat dishes. Tingmo is a contradiction of “Tinga” which means “cloud” in Tibetan language.

4. Thukpa

Your visit to Majnu Ka Tila is incomplete without trying Thukpa. It is a Tibetan noodle soup which is originated from eastern parts of Tibet. The dish is a combination of hand-pulled noodles with vegetables and choice of meat, dipped in a flavorful broth. Perfect food to enjoy on a chilly winter evening.

5. Shabhalep
