INTRODUCTION :-

The Northeast festivals celebrates the rich cultural heritage of india’s northeastern states, showcasing vibrant music,dance,food,crafts, & traditions,fostering unity & awareness of the region’s diversity.

1.Chapchar Kut (Mizoram)

It’s Origin :- Chapchar Kut is estimated to have started in 1450- 1700 A.D. in a village Suaipui. The festivals patently derived when the hunters returned home(in their village) in empty handed, to make up for the disappointment, the village chief proposed an impormptu feast with rice beer and meat. Since then the festival is repeated by the village of Suaipui.

Chaparchar kut has grown to include cultural performances & exhiibitions, making it a significant celebration of Mizo identity & heritage.

Chapchar kut was 1st revived in 1962 on vast scale in Aizwal, it also spring festival, called Mizo New year. Chapchar Kut is now held annually in the month of March. People dance, perform skits, play musical instruments to celebrate their beloved festival with the aims of bringing brotherhood among the people.

IMP:: chapchar is typically celebrated in the month of November. This festival promotes social cohesion among the Mizo people.

2.Bihu Festival (Assam)

Bihu is a harvest festival celebrated in Assam. The word “Bihu” comes from the sanskrit word “Bishu”, which means “to pray for blessings & prosperity during the season of harvest.”

Bihu is a vibrant Assamese festivals celebrates the harvest & Fertility .
It's atime of cultural pride and unity for the people of Assam.

There are 3 type of Bihu celebrated in Assam:

  1. Bohag Bihu :- This is celebrated in the month of bohag (Baishak,the middle of April) & the most exubernatly celebrated Bihu. It also known as Rangoli Bihu.
    • The 1st day of the bhog bihu is called Gour Bihu.
  2. Magh Bihu :- Celebrated in the month of “Magh”(The middle january)
  3. Kati Bihu :- Celebrated in the month of “kati”(Kartika, the middle of octber).

3. Ziro Festival Of Music (Arunachal pradesh)

Ziro festival of music is an outdoor music festival held in Ziro Vally in Arunachal Pradesh. The festival was founded in 2012. It is celebrated for 4 days and is hosted by member of the Apatani people in Ziro and is a most Eco-Friendly festival. The festival has three stages, Donyi(Sun), Pillo(Moon), & Takar(Star).

Formalities For Ziro:- All non-Arunachali indians need an inner line permit and forigner need a protected area permit to enter AP. These are available at state tourist offices in all major indian cities.

The Hornbill Festival, held in Nagaland, celebrates Naga culture with traditional dances, music, crafts, & cuisines,attracting global visitors.

The festival is named after the hornbill, The large and colour forest bird which is displayed in the folklore of most of the state’s folk groups. The main venue of the Hornbill festival held at the kisama heritage village located in the Southern Angami region of kohima district which is about 12kms from kohima.

6.Sonam Lhochhar Festival (sikkim)

Shonam Lochar is a vibrant festival celebrated by the Lepcha community in Sikkim, marking the New Year & honoring nature.

Sonam Lochar is a festival that marks the beginnig of the Tamang New Year in sikkim. The festival is celebrated with blissfulness & prayful fevor for five to fifteen days.

It is celebrated by Tamangs n takes place at devout community and homes. Sonam Lhochhar begins on the 1st day of the new moon in the month of Magh, Which is when Lord Budhha is believed to have been born.

7. Lui Nagai Ni (Manipur)
