The word ‘Snowfall’ makes people of not only India but people all over he world very excited because of its cold & soothing experience. People loves the experience of feeling the heat through their layered outfits in freezing cold & the view of course.
But, but, but Snowfall areas are very limited in India that to only in the northern parts of India. So we are gonna list 5 best snowfall places in India which gives you, the amazing snowfall experience.
1)GULMARG-
About – Gulmarg is a town, in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is also popular as a a hill station, a skiing destination and a notified area committee of the state.
Snowfall Timing – snowfall starts in Gulmarg at the end of December & continues to snow till march. So the idle time to give a visit to Gulmarg for Snowfall is just after the winters i.e January and February.
Activities – Gulmarg is famous for Skiing & snow boarding as well ,so if you visiting Gulmarg do give this sport a try. It will add upto one of your memorable experiences.
2)MANALI –
About – Manali is located in the Kullu district, of the state capital, Shimla. It is renowned as a resort town embraced by the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh near the northern end of the Kullu Valley in the Beas River Valley.
Snowfall Timing – Snowfall in Manali take place from the month of January to February and is considered the best time to enjoy the chilly pleasure of fresh snowfall . It is the time when temperature in Manali drops down below zero degrees Celsius.
Activities – River Rafting, Paragliding, Skiing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Mountaineering etc. are some of the fun activities that you can explore in Manali.
3)LADAKH –
About – Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory, and constituting a part of the larger Kashmir region. It is a mountainous region in North India also popular for its remote mountain beauty, studded with monasteries and stupas.
Snowfall Timing – January and February are extremely cold months in Ladakh, and the idle time to visit it if you are a snowfall lover with temperatures dropping much below the freezing point. There is constant heavy snowfall in these months leading to freezing temperatures.
Activities – Trekking is a must to be done activity needed to be added to your ‘to do list’ if you are visiting Ladakh but with the company of professional trekkers and mountaineers of the region as Ladakh has the most inhospitable weather, and so only regular trekkers and mountaineers usually go for it. In snowfall time Snow Leopard Trek is one of the famous winter treks in Ladakh region.
4)MUSSOORIE –
About – Mussoorie is a hill station and a municipal board which lies 35 kilometres from the state capital of Uttarakhand that is Dehradun. The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. Mussorie is one of the most beautiful place in the state of Uttarakhand.
Snowfall Timing – Mussoorie usually experiences snow during the month of December, January and February. But the recommended time to visit Mussoorie to experience snow fall is during end of December or 1st week of January.
Activities – following activities could be performed by the visitors of Mussoorie that is Sky Walking. Valley Crossing, Zip Swing Adventure, Rock Climbing, Paragliding, Nature Walk, Roller Skating, Boating, Trekking and shopping.
5)GANGTOK –
About – Gangtok is the capital of the mountainous northern Indian state of Sikkim. It is famous for Buddhist habitation & also stablished as a Buddhist pilgrimage site since the 19th century.
Snowfall Timing – Although snowfall in Gangtok town itself is not common, but places in Gangtok like Tsomgo lake and Nathula Pass often experiences snowfall. Nathula Pass experiences during the month of November to mid-April. However, the two months November and March are great time to see Nathula covered in snow whereas the best time to visit Tsomgo lake to experience snowfall is between January to March.
Activities – River Rafting, Paragliding, Mountain Biking, cable ride, shopping are some of the fun activites to do if you visit Gangtok.
There are also many other snowfall places in India to visit apart from my above 5 listed Locations. But i feel these sites (i.e the 5 mentioned above), aside from having great snowfall views, are also considered to be the most beautiful & scenic places by themselves for the mesmerizing view with or without snow.
