Which is located on RK Beach Road, this museum is a tribute to the legendary Sea Harrier aircraft that once played a vital role in Indian Navy

The endowment of the Sea Harrier aircraft

The Sea Harrier was a crucial part of the Indian Navy, serving as a vertical take-off and landing fighter jet designed for aircraft carrier operations. It was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1983 and remained active until its decommissioning in 2016. This aircraft played a key role in various naval operations, demonstrating superior manoeuvrability and adaptability in maritime warfare.

Museum Highlights

The Sea Harrier Museum was inaugurated on 11 May 2023, by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The main attraction is the decommissioned Sea Harrier aircraft in the centrepiece of the museum, which has been uniquely suspended from the ceiling to create the illusion of mid-air flight. The museum aims to educate visitors about the aircraft’s technological marvels and its contributions towards Indian Navy

Exhibits and Layout

Ground Floor: This section of the museum describes detailed insights into the history and operational capabilities of the Aircraft. It also houses an exhibition on the Pegasus jet engine, allowing visitors to explore the internal components of the aircraft.

Top Floor: Here, avionics and cockpit displays provide a closer look at the technological advancements used in the Sea Harrier. Visitors can also enjoy a dynamic aerial view of the aircraft. It stands adjacent to the Aircraft Museum and opposite the famous INS Kursura Submarine Museum, making it a must-visit destination for tourists.

Developed at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), the museum is not just a tourist attraction but also an educational hub.
