Shivneri Fort- A must visit Historical place in Maharashtra

A fort is the building which is built to protect the empire in case of any attacks from enemies. Shivneri Fort is a hill located place which is triangular in shape. It is the hometown of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who was the Indian ruler & creator of the Maratha Kingdom. 

The history of Shivneri fort is honored as the birth of Shivaji on 19th February 1630.This killa is made for the Shivaji where he adores his childhood & his mother Jijabai was shifted here during her pregnancy examined by the father of Shivaji named as Shahaji Raje.

Shivai Devi Temple

It is located at Shivneri Fort. The complete temple is designed in single stone. Here Jijabai visit daily during the time she was staying at Fort. The place is famous as it is to be said that the God Shiva and Goddess Shivai (Parvati) were protecting the fort.

Jijabai’s Wada

This is the place where Rajmata Jijabai was staying and it is the place where Shivaji Maharaj born. This place is locally popular as Shiv mandir.

Ganga Yamuna Water Tank

The major quality of two of its huge ponds called Ganges & Yamuna seems like a hollow height of more than 100metres . Although the water at Ganga Yamuna is very sweet & cold the people there totally depends upon those ponds for drinking water.

Badami Talab

Badami Talab is a huge circular tank located at the center of the fort and its water was used for utility work and as drinking water for horses and elephants.

Kadelot Point

Kadelot point is a narrow channel precipice from where the ruler punishes the criminals by throwing them down. You can found Kadelot point at almost all forts of Shivaji Maharaj.

7 Doors at Shivneri Fort

One needs to cross the 7 big doors to reach at the top of the Fort. Those seven doors are called as “Raj Marg” or “SakhaliVaat”. These 7 doors are known as Maha Darwaza, Parvangicha Darwaza, Hatti Darwaza, Peer Darwaza, Shipai Darwaza, Phatak Darwaza and Kulambkat Darwaza.

How to Reach Shivneri Fort?

To reach at Shivneri Fort is pretty easy as it is located just 2 to 3 kms from Junnar town. The town is located approximately 90 km from Pune. Hiking to the fort is also possible via Ganesh hind Pass. If you see Shivneri Fort map, you will found that it’s just 6 mins drive from Junnar. If you are not self-driving then you can also take a public bus & that would be the best way to reach Shivneri Fort in the cheapest way. Hiring a taxi is also a good option and would not that much expense. So, do not be nervous about how to reach Shivneri Fort.

Winter months October to March is the perfect time to visit Shivneri Fort because of its cool temperature and to explore the beauty of this place monsoon season July to September is best time.
